Whiskyspace Notes 1922

Took a sniff and it’s like a big ol’ teapot of lapsang souchong just walked into the room – smoky, bold, but not in a bad way. There’s a whiff of iodine and that salty brine kick, like licking the rim of a oyster shell. Citrus hits next – oranges and grapefruits, fresh and zesty, but it’s mimicking those Scottish peaters a bit too keen, if you ask me. The taste is straightforward, almost like a shortcut to something classic. A young-ish dram, maybe from a rejuvenated barrel? It’s got that green pepper snap and a touch of cough medicine sweetness – oddly comforting. The finish is easy, round, with a wee tad cardboardy edge, but still good and flawless. Could easily imagine Lou Reed slurring something poetic about it. Not too shabby for a nightcap. 🥃

Gold in the glass, medium feel. Briny and a bit oyster-shell, with soft round peat rather than a big slap of smoke. Quite lapsang souchong, then fresh orange and grapefruit juice 🍊 Slight cardboardy edge, but mostly easy-going and uncomplicated. Odd little dram, in a good way.

Quite warming and easy-going 🥃 I get a bit of soft fruit, gentle spice, and a wee woody note. Feels cosy, slightly sweet, with a nice dry finish. Could happily sip this on a chilly evening.

Well, first whiff? Got some apples 🍎, maybe a bit of honey... and a proper hit of vanilla like you find in a good custard. 🍮 Tastes... oaky, aye, with a touch of spice at the end. Feels quite smooth, almost creamy. A bit of orange peel comes through, lovely. 🍊 Finish is long and warm, with that oak and a faint... nuttiness? Almonds, maybe. Quite pleasant. 🥜 A right decent drop, this.
