Glen Grant Distillery underwent a significant ownership transition in 2018 when the Edrington Group announced its sale in June. After six months of speculation, the new owner was revealed in December as Hansjörg Wyss, the Swiss billionaire behind luxury crystal house Lalique. This acquisition marked Lalique's entry into Scotch whisky ownership, though the company possessed substantial industry experience. From 2006 to 2016, Lalique collaborated with The Macallan, crafting exquisite crystal decanters for the distillery's prestigious single malt releases through its wine and luxury goods subsidiary, Art & Terroir. The sale severed Glen Grant's long-standing association with Edrington's Famous Grouse brand, which had operated a popular visitor center at the distillery known as the 'House of Famous Grouse.' Under new ownership, the focus shifted to rebuilding Glen Grant as a standalone premium single malt brand. Lalique's investment of £15.5 million secured a 50% stake in the distillery, including one million liters of mature cask stock. Glen Grant maintains distinctive traditional equipment, notably Scotland's only remaining manually-operated 1.05-ton open-top stainless steel mash tun. The distillery features eight Douglas fir washbacks with an exceptionally long fermentation period of up to 120 hours, and a pair of copper pot stills. While the 2019 production target was 190,000 liters of new spirit, the new owners aim to increase annual capacity to 500,000 liters within the next few years without installing additional equipment. Historically, Glen Grant produced a heavily peated expression called Ruadh Maor at 80 PPM, though no peated production was scheduled for 2019. The appointment of former Macallan Master Blender Bob Dalgarno in 2019 signaled a new era for the brand. Under his expertise, Glen Grant planned to launch several new products in 2020. The core range includes Glen Grant 10 Year Old, Glen Grant Sherry Cask, Glen Grant Triple Wood, and Glen Grant Peated. Limited releases comprise Glen Grant 29 Year Old, Cameron's Cut, Jamieson's Jigger Edition, and the distillery-exclusive Peated Drummond Edition—a cask strength whisky crafted from 100% peated malt.

Poured a dram of this anniversary bottling tonight and it’s just fantastic 🥃 Such a lovely golden colour in the glass. The aroma is sort of tiptoeing in at first, bringing these gentle herbal teas and a funny hint of turpentine, sounds mad but it works brillianty! Then loads of beeswax and fir honey start coming through. Taking a sip and it's absolute magic. It hardly needs any water at all tbh. It’s completely not peaty, just packed with waxes, candied citrus and a weirdly nice citrus note that feels right on the verge of fermenting. Realy rich wax and honey vibes mixed with something reminding me of castor oil and old yellow chartreuse 🍋 It eventually settles down into these lovely precious woods. The finish is medium length but totally subilme. Such a very great old drop, proper gorgeous stuff. Cheers! ✨

Poured this one neat, hardly needs any water at all which surprised me a bit. First sip and you get this lovely golden colour in the glass, almost like old chartreuse but more delicate. There's honeys of all kinds swirling around - fir honey especially, mixed with these little mirabelle plums and candied citrus notes. Very much not peaty, more like tiptoeing in through gentle herbal teas and bergamots. Then the waxes hit - beeswax, a touch of lanolin, almost like wax polish on old precious woods. There's this sublime woodiness underneath, and small citrus fruits dancing about. Dried fruits come through too if you give it time. Honestly on the verge of fermenting in the best way, if that makes sense? Castor oil and turpentine sound odd but work somehow, adds this fantastic depth without being heavy. The finish is medium length, hardly any change from start to end really - just wax and honey all the way through. Golden stuff this 🍯✨

Well, poured a glass of this beauty. Looked like liquid gold in the glass. The nose is just lovely. Get a whiff of that beeswax and a bit of wax polish right away, mixed with some gentle herbal tea and candied citrus peel. Really sublime stuff. Take a sip and it's like it tiptoes in, soft and waxy. Then you get this lovely honey sweetness with some woodiness underneath, and a hint of bergamot or maybe that old yellow chartreuse note people talk about. The dried fruits come through too. Almost feels like it hardly needs any water at all, it's so well put together. The finish is a medium length, with a little citrus zing and that beeswax character hanging around. A proper treat for a quiet evening. 😊

Lovely warm dram 🥃 Bit of honey, oak and dried fruit, with a gentle peppery kick. Feels cosy, slightly smoky, and the finish hangs about nicely. Quite easy to sip, tbh.
