Strathclyde distillery, a major grain whisky producer in Glasgow, Scotland, was acquired by New York-based Schenley Industries in 1956. Schenley made substantial investments in the facility, most notably adding a single malt whisky brand called Kinclaith in 1958. This unusual move integrated a malt whisky still within a grain whisky complex. Kinclaith operated for a relatively brief period until 1975, making it one of Scotland's rarest single malts. The whisky was primarily used for blending, with very few official bottlings released, though some independent bottlings exist, making it highly sought after by collectors.

The dram comes in a deep gold swirl, hits the nose with ginger and a whiff of pu‑erh tea, the palate is spectacular – a bit of cardamom, the sweet bite of a Mars bar, a touch of pipe tobacco and some superb aromatic herbs. There's a spicy cake feel, a hint of smoked tea, bitter caramel and bitter oranges dancing with black raisins and roasted nuts. The earthiness grounds it, while peppered raisins and a faint chilli liqueur kick give it a long, warm finish. Honestly, it beats the old ones hands down. 😊

Oh mate, just poured a wee darm of this little grain number, and blimey 🥃 First sniff: bitter oranges, smoked tea, those superb aromatic herbs, cardamom and cloves jump right out Sip’s even better: bitter caramel, roasted nuts, chestnuts, a hit of ginger and pepper, even a little peppered raisin pop Then the mid notes roll in, earthy depths, caraway, black raisins, a subtle warmth from chillies, even a whiff of pipe tobacco and cigar like I’m in my grandad’s old study Finishes so very long, lingering menthol, spiced cake, even a cheeky Mars bar sweetness that makes me go “how spectacular” 😯

Just had this great little grain whisky after popping to the pub, honestly? 🤌 First sip’s got that nice little peppery kick, followed by all the warm roasted nuts and bitter caramel, plus a proper lovely whiff of smoked tea and pipe tobacco that’s so cozy. You get those deep black raisins, bitter orange zing, a little warm chilli liqueur tingle right at the back, plus all the superb aromatic herbs, cardamom, caraway, even that earthy pu-erh depth? The cask accounts for most of the flavours, hands down. Finish is very long, leaves that soft menthol tingle, little spice from cloves and ginger, even a faint hint of cigars lingering. Spicy cake notes too, loads of depth and complexity, honestly beats the old grain whiskies I used to neck hands down. Spectacular little drop for a quiet night in 🥃

Blimey, this dram’s a real corker! First sniff hits you with superb aromatic herbs and a whiff of cigars – proper cosy. The palate’s a riot of chillies and menthol, like someone’s slipped a bit of Chilli liqueur in there, but it’s balanced by chestnuts, roasted nuts and a mellow Great little grain whisky warmth. Bitter oranges and black raisins dance about, while pepper and cloves give it a spicy cake edge. There’s earth and ginger down below, and a bitter caramel sweetness that’s oddly addictive. The finish is very long, with a hint of pu-erh and smoked tea lingering, plus some cardamom and caraway that make you think of granddad’s pipe tobacco. How spectacular – it’s like a Mars bar crossed with a spicy fruitcake, but in the best way possible. Depth and complexity for days, this one. 🥃

Ooooh, this is proper bonkers in the best way—like someone stuffed a Christmas cake with chilli liqueur and set it on fire! First hit’s all warm ginger and cardamom, then BOOM, bitter oranges and cloves punch through like a Boxing Day hangover. The menthol sneaks in like a cheeky cough drop, while smoked tea and pipe tobacco make it feel like lounging in a gentleman’s club with a cigar dangling from your lips. Black raisins and peppered raisins dance around the edges, sweet but with a kick like a Mars bar left in the sun. Chestnuts and roasted nuts add that cosy fireplace vibe, but then—oh Christ—the earthiness of pu-erh kicks in, all damp forest floor and deep gold richness. The finish just lingers forever, like a ghost of spicy cake and caraway still haunting your tongue hours later. How spectacular is that?! 🔥
