Strathclyde distillery, a major grain whisky producer in Glasgow, Scotland, was acquired by New York-based Schenley Industries in 1956. Schenley made substantial investments in the facility, most notably adding a single malt whisky brand called Kinclaith in 1958. This unusual move integrated a malt whisky still within a grain whisky complex. Kinclaith operated for a relatively brief period until 1975, making it one of Scotland's rarest single malts. The whisky was primarily used for blending, with very few official bottlings released, though some independent bottlings exist, making it highly sought after by collectors.

Quite a bright little pour, this. I get rhubarb and kiwi first, then orange sweets and grapefruit lifting it up a bit 🍊 There’s a light white wine feel, with fruits in syrup and preserved bits, then it settles into cereals, croissants and a touch of vanilla pods. Less vanilla and coconut than I expected, though a wee trace of grated coconut hangs about. Clean, fruity, and easy to sip.

Quite fruity straight away, clean and bright, with grapefruit, rhubarb and a bit of white wine sparkle. Then it goes softer, like syrupy fruit, vanilla pods and warm croissants, with just a touch of grated coconut. There’s a nice bit of depth too, that warm sawdust thing hanging about. Good, really good tbh 😊
