Honestly, this one’s got a deep gold colour that looks like it’s been sitting in a cask forever. First thing I get is a caramelly hit, almost like deep-caramelised pad thai left on the stove too long, but in a good way. There’s raisins and something PX-ish, dark and fruity. It’s big and lovely on the nose, really rich. Then you get this salty-sweet pack of salmiak popping up, which is weird but great. Feels rather cold-distilled, very clean despite all that smoke. The smoke here isn’t your usual campfire thing—it’s more like smoked raisins dropped onto burning rubber boots, if that makes any sense? There’s marmalade tartness underneath, and a phenolic edge that’s actually quite friendly. Myrtle and juniper berries give it a green, herbal lift. On the palate it’s almost monstrous in its richness, with garam masala spices and wood oils coming through. It reminds me of a spicy mussel curry, maybe Jamaican-style with all those esters going wild. A resinous, almost endless finish that just keeps going, with eucalyptus wood and liquorice notes. It’s a highly extractive concoction, for sure, full of fermentary joy and hope. There’s a smartness to it, like a cold stove after a good burn. Rich, complex, and honestly just makes me grin. 😊🔥
