Just had a sip of this whisky – the aroma threw me off with tomato compote and black olives, sweet Vishnu! Tastes like a maelstrom of dates, Jamaican rum, and pipe tobacco, but the ex-bourbon tamed it a bit. Dried figs and raisin bread pop up, with hints of melon liqueur and chestnut honey. Finish is long and brutal, with tar and fig wine lingering. It’s luminous but not quite properly polished around the edges – like crude cocoa or miso sneaking in. Straw wine and pomegranate juice too? Hurray! Reminds me of raki or arrack from Turkey. 🥃😊
