Among numerous independent bottlers of Scotch whisky, Silvano Samaroli is regarded as an industry pioneer. He founded his own wine and spirits trading company, Samaroli Srl Wine and Spirits Merchants, in Rome in 1968. The company started as an importer and gradually became the first independent bottler of Scotch whisky outside the United Kingdom. In 1979, Samaroli launched its first batch of whiskies, including Cadenhead bottlings specially designed for the Italian market. In 1981, the brand's Flowers series was introduced, which has since transformed the collecting culture of Scotch whisky. To this day, the Flowers series ranks among the most competitive whiskies at auctions. As the business continued to expand, Samaroli began experimenting with cask strength bottling, pioneering the now-common practice among independent bottlers of bottling at high strength. Each bottle of Samaroli cask strength whisky is meticulously labeled with cask number, cask wood type, distillation date, tasting notes, and even interesting anecdotes behind it.

Nosing this one, bright citrus pops straight out – think tangerines and grapefruits dancing with gooseberries and those tart cider apples. There's a proper fruity punch, almost like biting into a handful of summer berries, with a nice freshness cutting through. On the tongue, it's this creamy butter cream thing going on, a bit custardy too, but not heavy. The chalky minerality sneaks in, reminds me of walking through limestone valleys – dry, crisp, with a pleasantly green edge. Malty, like a spoonful of muesli or sour dough starter, but still light and young, that Speyside elegance shining through. Medium-bodied, nothing too wild, just a very small batch charm. The aftertaste lingers with more citrus and a touch of grassy apple, leaves me smiling. Proper moreish dram this ☘️

Right then, cracked this one open last night. First thing that struck me was this grassy, porridgy kind of vibe - very green and fresh, like walking past a wheat field on a dewy morning. The citrus was there but sort of shying off a bit? Tangerines mostly, with apples coming through as it sat in the glass. Reminded me of muesli with fresh fruit scattered on top, oddly enough 🌾 Very young Speyside character, medium body, not too heavy on the palate. There's this pleasant straw-like quality underneath all the fruit. Once it opened up properly, the fruits just kept singing along - bright, lively stuff. A bit of grapefruit and gooseberry tartness creeping in too. Really nice for a casual evening dram, nothing complicated, just a clean and cheerful pour. 🥃
