Among numerous independent bottlers of Scotch whisky, Silvano Samaroli is regarded as an industry pioneer. He founded his own wine and spirits trading company, Samaroli Srl Wine and Spirits Merchants, in Rome in 1968. The company started as an importer and gradually became the first independent bottler of Scotch whisky outside the United Kingdom. In 1979, Samaroli launched its first batch of whiskies, including Cadenhead bottlings specially designed for the Italian market. In 1981, the brand's Flowers series was introduced, which has since transformed the collecting culture of Scotch whisky. To this day, the Flowers series ranks among the most competitive whiskies at auctions. As the business continued to expand, Samaroli began experimenting with cask strength bottling, pioneering the now-common practice among independent bottlers of bottling at high strength. Each bottle of Samaroli cask strength whisky is meticulously labeled with cask number, cask wood type, distillation date, tasting notes, and even interesting anecdotes behind it.

Just had a nosing whisky that hit me with fresh grassy aromas, a whisper of white pepper and beeswax, then a sweet lemon pie vibe with apple peelings, followed by a salty smoky note reminiscent of smoked salmon and drops of olive oil, finished with crystallised tangerines. It’s long, austere yet oddly comforting 😊

Got the dram on a breezy afternoon and the nose hits you straight away – big, smoky with a shy hint of fresh apple peelings and a whiff of lemon pie that feels a bit zesty. There's a faint herbal edge and a touch of white pepper that makes the nose feel lively, almost like a Clynelishy profile you’d expect from a vintage single cask. On the palate you get a gentle straw‑coloured wash, a little salty, like a bite of smoked salmon on a crisp cracker, then the lemony‑grassy side comes through, crisp as a fresh cut of lawn. A whisper of beeswax and a subtle drop of olive oil‑like richness adds depth, while the blended malt background keeps it grounded. Finish is long, lingering with a bit of salt and a final sting of white pepper that fades nicely. 🍋🥃

Ah, that’s a proper one! Long, smoky finish with a touch of salt—like a whiff of the coast. Zesty lemon and apple peelings pop first, then beeswax and white pepper linger. Almost like smoked salmon with a drizzle of olive oil, but in a glass. Herbal, straw notes too—proper Clynelishy vibes. 🥃

Just had this dram and wow, what a nose – big and fresh, like opening a old sea chest with beeswax and lemony zest. The palate hits salty upfront, reminds me of smoked salmon on a beachy breeze, but then it’s all shy herbal whispers and touches of crystallised tangerines. There’s this waxy texture too, like drops of olive oil clinging to the sides. Long finish for sure, smoky and austere with a hint of white pepper lingering. Proper vintage single cask magic, feels like a proper Clynelishy profile without being over the top. 🎉
