Port Charlotte is a distinguished heavily-peated single malt Scotch whisky brand originating from the Isle of Islay on Scotland's west coast. Though the original Port Charlotte distillery operated from 1829 to 1929 in the village of Port Charlotte, the brand was resurrected in 2001 by the innovative Bruichladdich Distillery, which is located just two miles northeast. The whisky is crafted on the historic grounds of the former Lochindaal Distillery, maintaining deep roots in Islay's whisky heritage. Port Charlotte expressions are characterized by their robust peat smoke (measuring 40 PPM), maritime influence, and complex layers of fruit, vanilla, and spice. The brand emphasizes terroir-driven production, utilizing 100% Scottish barley with a significant portion grown on Islay itself. Core expressions include the flagship Port Charlotte 10 Year Old, the terroir-focused Islay Barley series, and various wine cask finished bottlings. All whiskies are non-chill filtered and bottled at 50% ABV or higher, reflecting Bruichladdich's commitment to authenticity and quality.

Wow, this one's got a great weight in the mouth. Pale gold in the glass, smells like smoked grist and a hint of seawater. So wonderfully creamy still, though. Texture is the real winner here – soft, oily, just lovely. That creamy smokiness hits, with this gentle creosote and something like frying pancetta. More coastal and fresh than I expected – salty, lemony, maybe a touch of olive brine in there. The sooty smoke comes through nicely, farmyard tones and a bit of kipper smoke. Long finish with a warming peppery side. Immensely quaffable. Not hugely complex, maybe, but the feel of it just works. Hard to argue with this. 👍

Fresh coastal smoke straight away 🌊🥃 Creamy, oily feel, with kipper smoke, soot and a bit of tar. Gets peppery and warm, like pancetta frying in the pan. There’s grapefruit, oyster brine and a wee iodine nip too. Long, soft, smoky finish — super drinkable, but still feels nicely mature.

Lovely cosy dram 🥃 I get soft honey, a bit of oak, dried fruit and a wee touch of spice. Feels warm and rounded, with a gentle smoky edge at the end. Quite easy-going, honestly.

First sip's got this bold smokey peat, like a bonfire on a damp night. 🌧️ Then, there's a wee bit of sweet vanilla and a spicy kick. Really warms you up, quite nice that. 😊 Hmm, maybe some oaky notes comin' through too.
