Octomore 2012 5 Years Single Malt Whisky

Peat Monster, a pioneering blended malt Scotch whisky from the innovative Compass Box Whisky Company, was born from a late-night 'what if' moment: what if we created the ultimate heavily peated whisky by vatting together the most exceptional peated single malts? Since its revolutionary debut in 2007, this audacious creation has redefined the category of peated whisky. Far from being a one-dimensional smoke bomb, Peat Monster artfully marries Islay's legendary medicinal, maritime peat character (featuring components from distilleries like Caol Ila and Laphroaig) with the earthy, smoky elegance of mainland peated malts, resulting in a complex symphony of flavors. With phenol levels typically ranging from 45-65 PPM, it delivers an intense wave of campfire smoke, tarry rope, and iodine, balanced by unexpected layers of vanilla, tropical fruit, and baking spices from carefully selected first-fill American oak casks. This paradox of brute power and refined complexity has earned it a cult following among peat enthusiasts and novices alike, proving that heavy peat can be both challenging and beautifully approachable.
