Miyagikyo Distillery, nestled in the verdant hills of Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, represents the visionary expansion of Nikka Whisky, founded in 1969 by Masataka Taketsuru, the father of Japanese whisky. Contrasting sharply with the robust, maritime-influenced Yoichi Distillery in Hokkaido, Miyagikyo was deliberately sited to produce a delicate, fruity, and elegant Highland-style whisky. The distillery benefits from pristine soft water sourced from the Nikkawa and Hirose Rivers, and employs a combination of traditional copper pot stills and innovative Coffey stills, enabling production of both single malt and grain whiskies.
