Speyside is home to many distilleries—over 50 in total—and most are quite easy to locate. Some can be spotted from several kilometers away. Mannochmore distillery, while relatively conspicuous, is not easily found. If you're traveling along the A941 toward Rothes, don't be too quick to photograph the Longmorn distillery on your left; you can see in the distance on your right the roof of a warehouse and a large, white building emitting white smoke. You might think that's Mannochmore, but you'd only be half correct. That's merely an animal feed factory sharing the same site. Even when you're heading directly toward the distillery, it takes some effort to find it. All you can see is the pagoda roof of Glenlossie distillery's old kiln. You must enter a restricted area to properly locate Mannochmore distillery. There, you'll find a newly expanded mash room with large windows, a saccharification room, and eight fermentation tanks. Mannochmore was established in the early 1970s when the whisky industry was thriving. The distillery was built to produce malt whisky for blending purposes. Mannochmore and Glenlossie operate as "sister distilleries," sharing staff for many years. The two distilleries work alternately, each running for only half the year, with employees rotating between them. Since 2013, the distillery has been equipped with an 11.1-ton Briggs full-lauter mash tun, eight wooden fermentation tanks, eight outdoor stainless steel fermentation tanks, and four sets of stills. Pure wort and long fermentation (up to 100 hours) give the new spirit a fruity character. The distillery currently operates on a seven-day production week. Mannochmore's malt whisky is a crucial component in Haig blended whisky. Haig is a whisky brand that first emerged in the 1880s. The Haig family represents Scottish whisky nobility, having been involved in the whisky industry since the mid-17th century. Currently, the distillery's official bottling is the Mannochmore 12-Year-Old under Diageo's Flora and Fauna series. In autumn 2016, Diageo released a Mannochmore 25-Year-Old (distilled in 1990) as part of its Special Releases series, bottled at cask strength of 53.4%.

Sipped this on my new linoleum kitchen floor last night 🥃 Super very austere at first, all fresh barley and raw young Mannochmore vibes, kind of gave a little ‘yawn’ right off the bat? Then the peaches and melons absolutely saved it but good, so good. Got hints of grass, stems, hay, a touch of pepper, even a little whiff of coconut and tiny touches of vanilla. There’s this lemons and doughs zing, plus peels and that gorgeous gold colour. Kind of felt like a walk in the fields, kicking up old leaves and all, even had a random Nietzschean question pop into my head mid-sip for some reason. Not totally Homeric, not totally earthshattering, but a handful of marshmallows in the pocket sort of satisfying, y’know? Even caught a tiny drop of rum note at the end too. Nice little midweek pick-me-up.

I took a sip and it felt like a warm sun on my face, with that golden sheen and a whisper of fresh barley, almost like the first cut of grass in a meadow. Then there’s a tiny dash of coconut and a faint drop of rum that makes me think of a Nietzschean question – why does one sip feel so big? A touch of vanilla reminds me of a Tesco cake, but not too sweet, more like a handful of marshmallows tucked in a pocket. The pepper is subtle, like stems of a plant you’d pick on a walk in the fields, and there’s a hint of linoleum, a bit like standing on a polished floor after rain. It isn’t totally Homeric or earthshattering, just a neat little adventure in a glass. 😌

Well, first thing I notice is the color, that gold shine, like a walk in the fields on a sunny day. 🌾 Smells of hay and grass, with a bit of fresh barley in there. Then comes the taste – some peaches and melons pop up, saved it but good, I reckon. There's vanilla and Tesco cakes sweetness, tiny touches of vanilla, and a drop of rum hiding underneath. Lemons and doughs swirl around, almost like having a handful of marshmallows in your pocket. It's probably not totally Homeric, just a little yawn moment, making me think of a Nietzschean question. The stems and peels are subtle, and that young Mannochmore in a raw vibe is interesting, not perfect but charming. 😊

Golden pour, looked promising. Peaches and melons hit first – saved it from being boring. Got a drop of rum? Maybe, but more like lemons and doughs, kinda like a lemon cake. Vanilla and Tesco cakes, simple and sweet. 😊 Grass and leaves, fresh as a walk in the fields. But pepper kicks in, a bit spicy. A handful of marshmallows in the pocket would soften it, but no, very austere. Fresh barley and hay on the nose, with a whiff of linoleum? Not totally Homeric, just alright. Little 'yawn' midway, not totally earthshattering. Tiny touches of vanila and coconut try to lift it, but young Mannochmore in a raw feels unrefined. Peels and stems add a bitter note, yet some peaches and melons come through again. 🍑

Just had a sip of this whisky – reallly smoky and peaty, like a seaside bonfire. 🏕️ There's some sweet vanilla and honey too, makes it feel cozy. A bit spicy at the end, but so smooth! 😊🥃
