Longmorn Distillery, nestled in the heart of Speyside near Elgin, has been crafting exceptional single malt Scotch whisky since its founding in 1893 by John Duff. Contrary to its label's dramatic depiction of rugged peaks, the distillery actually resides on the fertile, rolling farmland of the Moray Firth valley, though the surrounding countryside does feature gentle hills. Longmorn is renowned for its robust, full-bodied character with rich notes of honeyed fruit, vanilla, and toasted nuts, derived from its traditional production methods and pure local spring water. While the distillery's core expression is the Longmorn 16 Year Old, the majority of its production has historically been allocated to premium blended Scotch whiskies, most notably Chivas Regal, where it serves as a key component malt. However, whisky enthusiasts celebrate the fact that Longmorn's exceptional spirit also regularly appears in the portfolios of independent bottlers, offering unique cask-strength and single cask expressions that showcase the distillery's complexity. The distinctive label artwork, featuring the distillery amid mountainous terrain, has become an iconic symbol that captures the aspirational spirit of this hidden Speyside gem, despite the geographical artistic license.

Hada dram this evening, light gold in the glass, smelled of honey and butterscotch with a touch of American oak, hints of apples, gooseberries and a whisper of pollen. Taste feels like a fruit salad dressed with honey sauce, shortbread and brioche notes, a bit of sweet earth and barley, gets farmier as it opens. No peat, just pure malt, rewards you if you give it your attention. A shame I haven’t got the 19 at hand right now. 🍯

Just poured a dram of this and blimey, it’s like a fruit stall after a summer rain. Swarms with all kinds of tiny fruity and oily aromas – think kiwis, oranges, lemons, and that sweet earth from the barley fields. No peat here, just clean malt and a touch of American oak that gives it a bit more depth than your average dram. The taste? Proper lovely. Butterscotch and honey swirl with the malt, almost like fruit peelings in a bowl. Reminds me of sitting in a hay barn with a slice of brioche and a glass of buttered tea. Gets farmier as it sits, but in a good way, not overpowering. What a distillate – whole and honest, nothing fake. For malt freaks who’re not into artificial flavouring, this is proper. Shame I haven’t got the 19 at hand to compare, but this one’s got enough character to keep me happy. Bit brighter than expected, with a medium finish that rewards you for paying attention. Croissants and shortbread vibes, maybe a hint of sunflower oil in the mix. Centre of the malty Earth, really. Might miss some sherry cask influence, but honestly, it doesn’t need it. Just a shame I can’t bottle this moment – it’s that good. 🥃

Blimey, this dram’s got a proper orange and gooseberry punch to it – like biting into a fruit salad that’s been drizzled with honey, but then there’s this weird putty thing going on that’s oddly satisfying. The barley’s all malty and sweet earthy, like standing in the middle of a field round hay, and it’s got a touch of American oak that’s a bit brighter than I expected. No peat, no sherry, just this buttery, butterscotch warmth that reminds me of croissants and brioche dripping with butter. What a distillate! It rewards you with every sip, and honestly, it’s a shame I haven’t got the 19 at hand – miss many of them, but this one’s still a cracker for malt freaks who aren’t into artificial nonsense. The finish’s full of pollen and leaves, like a late summer meadow. Perfect malt whisky, really. 🍊

Cheers! Just poured a dram of this. On the nose, it’s this lovely putty and sunflower oil thing, but then it just swarms with all kinds of tiny fruity and oily aromas and fragrances. Green apples, lemons, oranges, even some kiwis in there. It’s like a fruit peelings salad. Gets a touch farmier after a minute, around hay and sweet earth. A bit of brioche and croissants too. What a distillate! 🍯 Palate is medium, whole. Honey, butterscotch, and proper shortbread. A touch of American oak gives it a bit brighter edge. It’s the centre of the malty Earth, for sure. No sherry, just pure malt. Rewards you if you give it your attention. A perfect malt whisky for malt freaks who’re not into artificial flavouring. 😊

Oof, this one’s a proper treat—light gold in the glass, like a summer morning’s first sip of tea. First whiff hits you with a wave of brioche fresh from the oven, warm and buttery, then those tiny fruity swarms kick in—kiwis, apples, even a bit of sunflower oil’s gentle nudge, like the scent of a bakery’s back room. Take your time with it, yeah? The centre’s all malt, rich and earthy, but not overpowering—just the kind of thing that makes you wish you’d saved the ’19 for this moment. There’s gooseberries hiding in there too, sharp and bright, dancing with orange peel and a whisper of barley’s grainy sweetness. No artificial nonsense, just pure, honest distillate doing its thing. Medium-bodied, rewarding you the more you give it. Miss too many of these and you’re the poorer for it.
