This dram’s got a proper layered feel to it – starts with this sherry-forward punch, all dark raisins and sultanas dancing with a touch of bitter chocolate. The nose is cracking – dried mango and crystallised tropical fruits, but there’s something earthier lurking underneath, like old Irish pot still whiskey vibes mixed with green banana and overripe papaya. On the tongue, it’s voluptuous but firm – big oily fruitiness with rapeseed oil and golden syrup sweetness, then these wood spices kick in (think fir and eucalyptus bark). There’s a thready, pulpy mouthfeel, almost like mango jam colliding with brown bread. The finish is long, coppery amber, with hints of tea tree oils and herbal cocktail bitters lingering. It’s evolving, really – every sip seems to reveal new pockets of flavour, from liquorice to guava. The background waxiness and brittle notes give it a slightly tired, but still superb arrival. Proper Lochside DNA, this – reminds me of those herbal exotic fruit teas my gran used to brew, but way more intense. 🥃
