Knappogue Castle is a distinguished Irish whiskey brand with a remarkable heritage dating back to 1966 when American Mark Edwin Andrews purchased the eponymous 15th-century castle in County Clare, Ireland. The castle lay in ruins, and Andrews, along with his wife (a renowned architect), embarked on an ambitious restoration project to return it to its former glory. During this period, Andrews began acquiring exceptional casks of premium Irish whiskey from the country's finest distilleries. These whiskies were further matured and bottled under the Knappogue Castle label, establishing a tradition of excellence. His final bottling, a 36-year-old 1951 vintage, is acclaimed as one of the oldest and rarest Irish whiskies ever released commercially. Decades later, his son Mark Andrews III continued this legacy, introducing Knappogue Castle 1951 and the brand to the United States and international markets, cementing its reputation for ultra-premium, vintage-dated Irish single malt whiskey.
