Kilbeggan Distillery, originally established as Locke's Distillery in 1757, stands as one of Ireland's most historic whiskey producers, operating continuously on the same site for nearly two centuries. The distillery's most treasured artifact was the world's oldest working copper pot still, a testament to its deep-rooted heritage. Tragically, economic hardships of the mid-20th century forced the distillery to sell this iconic still in the late 1950s, ultimately leading to cessation of production in 1954 and final closure in 1957. The distillery lay silent for decades until its resurrection in 1987 when John Teeling, a visionary independent whiskey entrepreneur who founded Cooley Distillery, acquired the historic property from the Locke family. Teeling meticulously restored Kilbeggan to its former glory, returning whiskey production to Ireland's oldest licensed distillery site. Today, Kilbeggan honors its 18th-century roots while crafting exceptional Irish whiskey, embodying resilience, tradition, and the unwavering spirit of Irish distilling.

Poured a pale gold dram, nose hits orange blossom and a hint of pomegranate, pretty malty with a honeyed touch like breakfast honey on warm scones. Sip feels rather oily, good body, a feeling of IPA brightness, maybe more tangerines popping through. There's an oriental pastry vibe, cakes and scones sweetness, and honestly it hurts no one – just a smooth drop. Still wondering a bit about the rye, it's hardly noticeable. 🍯🍊

This one’s got a proper nice citrusy nose, lots of tangerines and a hint of pomegranate that’s quite inviting. The palate’s rather oily but in a smooth way, with honeyed notes and this sweet, malty backbone that reminds me of cakes and scones fresh out the oven. There’s a subtle cantaloupe sweetness too, almost like an oriental pastry filling. I’m still wondering a bit about the rye – it’s there, but rye? Hardly noticeable, more like a whisper in the background. The body’s good, solid palate with a medium finish, and it leaves this warm, pollen-like dryness that lingers just enough. Made this with care, definitely – feels like someone’s put some thought into it. 🥃✨

Nose is lovely and citrusy – orange blossom and tangerines jumping out, with a hint of cantaloupe. 🍊 Palate feels solid and honeyed, like breakfast honey mixed with oriental pastry. Feels firmer than you'd guess at just 43%. Definitely made this with care. Finish is medium, some beeswax and pollen floating around. A tad too eau-de-vie-ish for my taste, but hurt no one. Good body all the way through. Really good drop altogether! Nicer than those earlier 15 and 18 year olds. The rye? Hardly noticeable, still wondering a bit. Just blends perfectly, with a vibe of IPA. 🍯
