Blimey, this 20yo single malt is an absolute cracker 🥃 First you get that soft smoky whiff of kippers and oysters, then that quite waxy green apple and freshly squeezed Sicilian lemon come through. There’s even little touches of anchovies and fresh kelp that give it that briny kick, y’know? Then it opens up to sweeter and rounder fruits – stewed apples, kiwis, bright green gooseberries, even a hint of custard and those sauvignony white grapes. You get that faint Pouilly-Fumé white wine vibe too, plus crunchy notes of crushed almonds and a touch of sunflower oil right in the middle. The finish has that gently bitter lemon zest zing, is rather long, keeps that extremely fresh, clean feel going, and it’s relatively easy to sip even with all the complex layers. Extremely well composed, very coherent, typical John Glaser work if you ask me. Really rather elegant, no harshness at all.

A faint note of smoked salmon‑like anchovies pops up, then there’s that elegant, slightly bitter edge you’d expect from a good malt, almost like a splash of white wine or a drizzle of sunflower oil. The finish is rather long, lingering with a whisper of lemon – think finely squeezed Sicilian lemons – and a faint sauvy note that reminds me of a Pouilly‑Fumé.
