This one’s a proper treat – starts off with this lovely nutty sweetness, like someone’s melted a handful of hazelnuts and stirred in soft marzipan. Then it opens up into something more lively, almost like a Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre but with a bit more kick. There’s a freshness here that makes me think of blood oranges and a squeeze of lime, but it’s balanced by this creamy, cappuccino-like warmth. The aniseed comes through stunningly, not overpowering but enough to make you sit up. It’s got this medium body, not too heavy, with a slight sourness that’s oddly refreshing – like a dash of rosehip tea. The finish? Meringue and butterscotch dancing on the tongue, maybe even a hint of milk chocolate. Less complex than some of the older Girvan malts I’ve tried, but honestly, it’s even better than 40 for a casual sip. Smooth, golden, and ends with this almost meaty richness that lingers like a good meal. Proper enjoyable, that.
