Port Charlotte is a distinguished heavily-peated single malt Scotch whisky brand originating from the Isle of Islay on Scotland's west coast. Though the original Port Charlotte distillery operated from 1829 to 1929 in the village of Port Charlotte, the brand was resurrected in 2001 by the innovative Bruichladdich Distillery, which is located just two miles northeast. The whisky is crafted on the historic grounds of the former Lochindaal Distillery, maintaining deep roots in Islay's whisky heritage. Port Charlotte expressions are characterized by their robust peat smoke (measuring 40 PPM), maritime influence, and complex layers of fruit, vanilla, and spice. The brand emphasizes terroir-driven production, utilizing 100% Scottish barley with a significant portion grown on Islay itself. Core expressions include the flagship Port Charlotte 10 Year Old, the terroir-focused Islay Barley series, and various wine cask finished bottlings. All whiskies are non-chill filtered and bottled at 50% ABV or higher, reflecting Bruichladdich's commitment to authenticity and quality.
