Peat Reek: From ancient times to present, there has never been a distillery named 'Peat Reek' in Scotland. This is a pseudonym used by independent bottlers either for amusement or due to contractual constraints with the original distillery—what is commonly known as a 'mystery distillery.' Yet it strikes a chord with many Scotch whisky enthusiasts who passionately collect these bottles. Beyond satisfying curiosity and guessing its origin, it also serves as a test of one's whisky knowledge when sharing with friends. More importantly, connoisseurs know that when independent bottlers release a 'mystery distillery' series, the selected casks must possess characteristics that represent the classic flavor profile of the original distillery. If such a cask were bottled by the distillery itself, the label would bear markings like 'Special Selection' and 'Very Rare,' commanding a much higher price.
