Glendalough, meaning 'valley of the two lakes,' is a craft distillery nestled in the Wicklow Mountains just south of Dublin, in a region renowned as the 'Garden of Ireland.' This pristine glacial valley was home to a 6th-century monastery founded by the legendary Saint Kevin, whose spirit of adventure and devotion to nature serves as our inspiration—embodied by the iconic figure on our bottles. Monastic settlements like Glendalough were the birthplace of distillation in Ireland, where monks first created medicinal spirits and uisce beatha, the 'water of life.' We are five friends bound by a shared passion for exceptional Irish whiskey. What began as spirited conversations over drams evolved into a bold decision: leaving the security of city careers to forge something meaningful in the mountains, following in the footsteps of our patron saint, Kevin. In 2011, we established Glendalough Distillery—one of Ireland's first modern craft distilleries—on the doorstep of this legendary valley. Our mission is to revive Ireland's lost art of distillation with a contemporary vision. We craft innovative whiskeys finished in rare casks like Japanese mizunara oak and native Irish oak, alongside traditional poitín and award-winning gins that capture the wild botanicals of the Wicklow landscape. Each bottle embodies the intersection of ancient heritage and modern craft, delivering a taste of Ireland's most beautiful valley.
