Munro's King of Kings
James Munro & Son was a distinguished Scottish whisky blending and merchant house founded in Leith, Edinburgh, in the late 19th century. Operating from what was then the global epicenter of whisky trade, the company crafted 'King of Kings' as a flagship premium blended Scotch whisky brand. This blend represented the pinnacle of Victorian and Edwardian blending artistry, combining rare malt and grain whiskies. At its peak, the company owned and operated Dalwhinnie and Knockdhu distilleries, securing control over distinctive Highland malt components. In 1925, James Munro & Son was acquired by Distillers Company Limited (DCL), the corporate predecessor to modern spirits giant Diageo, marking a pivotal moment in Scotch whisky industry consolidation. Today, King of Kings exists as a cherished historical brand, with surviving bottles representing highly collectible artifacts from the golden age of Scottish blending, embodying the robust, complex character typical of early 20th-century premium blends.
