Redbreast: Irish Distillers sounds like one of those old-fashioned state-owned companies, feeling very warm and cozy. In fact, it was formed by the merger of many distilleries and is a pillar of the Irish whiskey industry. The Midleton distillery produces Jameson Irish whiskey and is also the birthplace of many other renowned whiskeys.

1857

W & A Gilbey was founded, initially operating as a wine and spirits merchant in London, before gradually establishing offices in Dublin and Edinburgh.

1866

The company headquarters relocated to Dublin and began producing spirits under its own brand.

1887

Partnered with the renowned John Jameson & Son's to launch unblended Irish whiskey.

1912

Gilbeys officially launched the Redbreast brand, which would become one of the company's most iconic names.

1964

Redbreast's bottle design was refreshed, and vintage years began to be stated on the labels.

1978

The label was revised again, establishing the distinctive pot still bottle shape that continues to be used today.

1986

The brand was sold to Irish Distillers.

1991

Following the acquisition, new Redbreast expressions were reintroduced to the market.

2005

The acclaimed Redbreast 15 Year Old Irish whiskey was released.

2013

Redbreast 31 Year Old Irish whiskey was launched.
