Brauerei Locher AG was acquired by the Locher family in 1886 and is now the only brewery in the Appenzell region. This independent, fifth-generation family business is renowned for its specialty beers. In 1999, the brewery began producing Appenzeller Säntis Malt, made possible after Switzerland lifted its ban on grain spirit distillation. The unconventional charm of Säntis Malt whisky derives from its unique oak beer casks and the pristine spring water from the magnificent Alps. By adapting raw materials and production methods, the distillery creates distinctive and varied whiskies.
