North Port
North Port Distillery, also known as Brechin Distillery, was established in 1823 by the Guthrie family in the Royal Burgh of Brechin, Angus. Located in the Southern Highlands of Scotland, it became one of the region's first legal whisky producers following the Excise Act. The Guthrie family took great pride in their operation, installing modern machinery to increase efficiency while maintaining traditional methods. The whisky was crafted using time-honored pot still distillation and condensed in worm tubs using water from the Den Burn. The water and peat were sourced from the Scottish Highlands, while the finest barley came from local farms. Though Diageo later honored the distillery with bottlings in their "Rare Malts" series (1995, 1998, 1999) and a 2005 "Special Release" under the name "Braes," North Port's whisky was never officially bottled as a single malt during its operational lifetime. Renowned whisky writer Michael Jackson described North Port in his "Malt Whisky Companion" as a "dry, fruity, nutty, aperitif whisky." ©https://scotchwhisky.com/
