Black Bull is the rebellious spirit of Scotch whisky, born from the vision of George Willsher, a true non-conformist in an era of tradition. In 1864, within the blending rooms of his Dundee grocery and spirits shop, Willsher dared to defy conventions. While others chased uniformity, he envisioned a bold, high-strength blend with an unprecedented 50% malt content. His revolutionary recipe—50% single malt whisky and 50% single grain whisky, bottled at 100 US proof (50% ABV)—created a powerful, uncompromising flavor profile that stood apart from the crowd. This fearless independence continues today. Still independently owned, Black Bull remains free from corporate constraints, allowing us to preserve Willsher's original philosophy: create exceptional whisky without compromise, challenge expectations, and deliver something truly different in every bottle.
